The workplace has been ranked as one of the unhealthiest places you will encounter during your day, which can be a bit of a problem. According to the most recent* statistics published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), 141.4 million days were lost through sickness in Britain. This averages out to 4.4 lost days for each worker.
While there was a variety of reasons for people taking the day off sick, minor illnesses accounted for 38.5 million days of lost work. Minor illnesses include coughs, colds, flu, sickness, nausea and diarrhoea. And that’s before we take into account the unprecedented effect of the current coronavirus outbreak.
Sick days can be a costly problem for businesses, so ensuring the work environment and your team stay healthy is really important.
Office germ hotspots
Due to the very nature of an office, it’s bound to be a melting pot of germs and bacteria. With so many people coming and going, germs will be carried in from homes and from public transport. It’s no wonder illness quickly spreads, and many days of work are lost.
Muck will be trodden through on dirty shoes; desks are turned into dining tables and germ ridden hands touch everything! For instance, we read a rather horrifying fact that the average desk harbours 400 times more bacteria than the average toilet seat! There’s no way these germs aren’t being spread across the whole office. Just think about how many things you share in the office – staplers, pens, paperwork – the list goes on.
Other top contributors to the spread of office germs include phones, keyboards and mice, photocopiers and door handles.
Keeping office germs at bay
Keeping the office environment fresh and clean will go a long way to improving the health of your team. A clean and healthy office is also key to creating a great first impression for new starters, customers and clients. It reflects a professional and considerate business.
You may be wondering why we, a carpet cleaning company, are telling you this. Well, did you know that a lot of the little nasties which cause these unwanted ailments could be living in the carpet and on the office chairs (21,000 germs per square inch, in fact). Carpet and upholstery in the office sees a lot of action and are often overlooked when it comes to cleaning.
It’s easy enough to clean hard surfaces in the office and run a vacuum around and think this is doing the job. But it’s not.
Commercial carpet cleaning by Resolve Carpet Care
We understand that finding a time to fit in regular carpet and upholstery cleaning in a busy office can be difficult. Businesses don’t have time to wait around for carpets to dry! Luckily, we use a rapid-dry method, typically leaving carpets dry in under 60 minutes. You won’t have to lose any more time waiting for the office to be usable again. And we take care of those nasties that vacuuming alone just won’t reach.
Reduce the spread of the coronavirus
We’re all well aware of the Covid-19 pandemic that is sweeping the globe right now. Offices are emptying out with more employees working from home to stop the spread of the virus.
Now would be a sensible time to give your office a really good deep clean. Not only to eradicate any coronavirus germs which may be lingering on surfaces, but also because there are fewer people about to disrupt. We can go in and deep clean your carpets and upholstery leaving them ready for the masses to return. Our solutions even contain an anti-bac treatment at no extra cost.
